Rising of Lugh
Gavida taught Lugh not only the art of blacksmithing, metalwork, and weaponry, he taught him how to fight as well. Gavida had some unusual battle moves due to his deformities, and he taught those moves to Lugh, making Lugh unpredictable to his opponents, and thus, a formidable warrior.
Gavida also entertained Lugh with magician's tricks and bad poetry, and the erroneous phrasing often left the three holding their bellies and wiping tears of laughter. Gavida and Talte were skilled chess players, and took turns challenging Lugh at the board. From these games, Lugh learned battle strategy, as Gavida often described the moves as if he were moving troops on a battlefield.
Talte imbued Lugh with honesty, integrity, and the ability to see all sides of a situation. In addition, she'd taught him how to play a harp with songs from her native country.
Though Lugh was aware of his Tirnogian lineage, he had little interaction with the Tirnogians for his own safety. There couldn't be any whispers that he might have Tirnogian blood, especially for being born at the same time as Ethlenn's lost babies. His blonde hair was darkened with a dye made from red wine, walnut shells, oil of tartar, and the leaves of beets, bramble, and black fig, and he was passed off as a Human.
As soon as Lugh was old enough, they brought in a private trainer to teach him advanced battle skills. They knew that his life might depend on it one day. Being taller than a Human, they'd presented his age as being older and the ploy worked for awhile. The trainer was told that Gavida was unable to teach "his son" the art of fighting, having only one leg himself, and as Gavida had been bullied in his own youth, they wanted to make sure that Lugh could hold his own and not suffer as his father had.
Few secrets remain hidden for long, and eventually there were whispers about Lugh's true identity around Seelewey. The townsfolk kept the secret close, wanting desperately for a champion to take up their cause against the Fomorians. Every man with a skill came to Lugh to teach him, and he proved an adept student in all disciplines.
By the time he reached manhood, Lugh's body rippled with muscles, his battle skills were unmatched, and yet his temperament was that of a man with great wisdom. He never made a move in anger which was the sign of a formidable opponent. It was time to rejoin his father's people, the Tirnogians.
Talte took him to Ailech to meet his father, Keon, for the first time. She hadn't sent word beforehand lest it be intercepted, and they traveled by night unseen.
When they arrived at Ailech, the guards were suspicious. Talte and Lugh were two dark-haired strangers appearing at the door, asking for Keon or Dagda. They did not want to identify themselves until they were safely inside the walls, and Lugh did the talking.
"Sirs, I am a blacksmith, seeking work. This is my mother.
